Africa and Beyond

In this episode of Africa and Beyond, host Justus is joined by Abdullah, a journalism student and an expert on African issues, to discuss the theme of “single story telling,” its relationship to prejudices and misconceptions about foreign cultures, and how to overcome them. In this episode, Justus and Abdullah share thoughts about the economic, social, and cultural issues facing Africa and Nigeria specifically, by discussing the works of two Nigerian cultural figures: the popular singer Falz and the literary author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Justus is also joined by Associate Professor of Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations at University of Toronto Hans Jenssen, who elaborates on the historical dimensions behind Africa’s issue and the prejudicial misconceptions that Europeans hold about Africa.
