Didgeridoo Workshop - I play the Didgeridoo … What about you?
Vom 11.12.2011
Australian sounds at Bay School Recently we were offered a didgeridoo workshop at our school. It was interesting for the students of year nine because we had discussed the topic Australia in our English lessons before and, of course, we had also talked about the didgeridoo, which is the one of the oldest instruments in the world. When we had first heard the strange sound it makes no one could imagine playing this himself/herself or participating in such a workshop, but some of us wanted to find out how to get such great tunes from such a tube and so we signed up. We had two meetings, each of which lasted three hours, and in the first one our tutor, Oliver Heltewig, welcomed us. Oliver is a teacher at the Sophie-Scholl-Gesamtschule in Remscheid and he has been playing the didgeridoo for many years. He told us about how he started playing the didgeridoo and how hard it was to learn it. After six hours of intensive practice we were finally able to make various sounds such as the sound of a kangaroo. We even performed in a group at the open house (Tag der Offenen Tür). In my opinion it was worth it. It was not just learning how to play this instrument, but we have also gained experience for our life and improved our English vocabulary, because we mostly talked English. The workshop was interesting and a lot of fun. Participants: Anna-Lena Gawens, Julia Thauwald, Laura Feldmann, Julia Gönster, Isabella Ende, Johanna Liedtke, Nicolas Peters, Stella Sommer, Kira Thulke, Lena Gundermann, Gudrun Wüster and Carola Boeker.
